Standard 9 Professional Learning and Ethical Practices
The candidate engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.
Reflection
The teacher strives to grow in areas that would benefit their students to having an equitable, inclusive and holistic education by attending professional learning opportunities. They collaborate with other teachers as well as the community in order to adapt their practice to better meet the needs of the learners in their classroom. As the world changes, so should the way we teach.
Artifact 1 -
WMEA Conference
I am fortunate to have attended the Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) Conference in February of this year and in 2023. This is an annual conference that brings music educators from around the state and other parts of the country to come together presenting sessions on pedagogical and content knowledge. As part of my continuing education, I strive to find concepts to present experiences for my students whether that be Social Emotional Learning (SEL), or dance and music from other cultures.
In one of the sessions, I learned about the Tinikling Dance which is the most common folk dance in the Filipino culture. The speakers were able to provide a presentation on how to approach this dance and apply it to your classroom. My hope is to implement this dance in the fall including getting in contact with the Filipino Hall that is in Wapato. This will help build community as well as bringing representation of my students within the classroom.

Artifact 2 -
Clock hours
Another resource I can use towards gaining knowledge within my profession is obtaining clock hours. Some of these were offered as Professional Development (PD) through my school district as you will see in the artifact to the right. I can also access these through pdEnroller, which connects me to the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) or ESD 105. This allows me to improve in areas such as classroom management, culturally responsive practices and more. Also, it helps me to reflect and adapt my practice to better serve my students and provide them a holistic education.
